Your procedures will go more smoothly with faster healing time, less bruising and better results if you adhere to some simple guidelines.

Please take the time to read the guidelines for your particular procedure so you get the best results possible.

To reduce the chance of bruising, avoid the following for 2 weeks prior to your treatment, unless prescribed by a doctor:

  • Fish oil
  • Aspirin
  • Pain relievers
  • Coumadin (get primary physician approval first)
  • Glucosamine
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • Garlic
  • Vitamin E
  • Exotic or herbal supplements
  • If history of cold sore, please call our office and we will write you a prescription for an anti-viral medication

Have water and a light meal to eat before arriving.  We suggest you do not eat right after treatments around the mouth – letting the product “settle” a few hours will give you the best results.

  • Do not schedule anything important after your treatment. For best results, it is best you and the doctor are not rushed.
  • No alcohol for 24 hours after treatment
  • No increased blood pressure (i.e., sauna, hot tub, exercise, cardio) for 24 hours post treatment (helps prevent bruising)
  • It is recommended that makeup not be applied until 1 hour after treatment to allow the skin to breathe
  • Avoid excessive facial expressions and strenuous exercise for 24 hours after your treatment.  This helps the product “settle” without disturbing the location where it was injected.
  • Do not rub or massage the area for 24 hours
  • It is best not to schedule travel/ flights within 24 hours of the procedure as it can aggravate bruising.
  • Redness and swelling may last a few days
  • Do not schedule any dental treatments within one week of your procedure.
  • There is a risk of bruising which is only temporary and can be covered up with makeup.  If significant, please contact The Dermatology Room™
  • Stop all skin drying and exfoliating agents 2-3 days prior to treatment .  This includes retinoids, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, etc.  If you are not sure about a product, please call.
  • No waxing for at least 7 days prior to treatment.

You are not a candidate for a chemical peel if:

  • Herpes (cold sores) are present
  • You have an immunosuppressive disease or condition
  • You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or intend to get pregnant in the next 30 days
  • You have any history of allergy to the ingredients
  • Post-peel instructions will vary depending on the type of peel that was administered
  • Avoid sun exposure immediately after a chemical peel and use sun block during the healing process since the new skin is fragile and more susceptible to injury
  • You can expect to take 2-3 days off from exercise following the peel; you must avoid heat and sweat for the first few days
